There’s No Place Like Home: A Fall Wedding with Maura Jane Photography

The tall cottonwood trees arched all the way over the long paved Los Poblanos driveway as we made our way to Lauren and Andrews wedding. The leaves were already changing and several of the trees here and there were really showing off their colors. The couple had traveled all the way from New York City for their big day in the Land of Enchantment, and they were excited that fall was beginning to appear.

– Maura Casados, Maura Jane Photography

As many New Mexicans know by now, it is hard not to return back home when you leave our lovely state. We hear stories all of the time about couples who move away for various reasons, but decide to have their wedding here in the Land of Enchantment because it truly stole their hearts. We totally get it. There is something so captivating about the landscape and the people – it really is a gem.

Lauren & Andrew seemed to both agree that New Mexico was the ideal place for their fall wedding, even though they live all the way on the East coast in New York City. When you live all the way on the other side of the country, sometimes you need to call the family back home to ask for a little wedding planning help, and that is just what Lauren did. Lauren’s mom knew just the location to celebrate the marriage between her daughter and to-be-son-in-law – Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm! The couple booked the venue without hesitation. And who wouldn’t after seeing the stunning backdrops of lavender fields and rustic farmhouse chic decor?

The couple chose different shades of burgundy and blush for their colors, which complimented the fall foliage perfectly. Lauren wore her hair low and side-swept in a perfect bun and donned a stunning lace dress that fell off her shoulders softly. Perhaps our favorite detail was her pointed Bella Belle heels that matched her dainty belt perfectly.

The Perfect Wedding Guide crew is swooning over the small details from this perfect autumnal wedding. The rose gold ring, the pastel invitations, the perfectly fitting gown, and their absolutely radiant love for each other are just a few of the things that have us struck with awe. Not to mention that this day was captured by the one and only Maura Jane Photography whose style fits seamlessly with the warm + pastel fall vibes.

They exited the ceremony with a dried rose petal toss before joining their guests for cocktail hour on the back lawn. White pumpkins, candles and eucalyptus decorated the tables as guest toasted the newlyweds and sipped lavender gin cocktails and champagne. We finished the evening with a quick photo in front of the old historic building that hosted their reception as the couple kissed while being surrounded by farolitos.

We are so honored to have been sent the gallery from Lauren & Andrew’s wedding day. Take a peek & let the feeling of pure bliss come over you as you immerse yourself in the beautiful photos taken by Maura and her team!

Congratulations Lauren and Andrew, we are so happy for you both!

Desert Vibes: A Styled Shoot with Briana Nicole Photography

The southwest is as diverse as it comes between the melting pot of cultures and geography, but that only means that you can use our gorgeous desert landscape to set the stage for your bright and vibrant color palette.

It is officially time to say “hasta la vista” to the warm New Mexico weather, and welcome in the thrills and chills of late October. Even though we love a good fall breeze, it’s hard not to look back at sunnier days and feel a little bit wistful. Luckily for us, Briana Nicole Photography submitted this absolutely charming styled shoot conceptualized by Just Lovely Weddings so that we may indulge in our summertime cravings. The incredible images are the cherry on top!

The New Mexican desert is home to spectacular wildflowers, abounding sagebrush, and various cacti plants. It’s no wonder people gravitate to our state for photo opportunities galore. For this styled shoot, the designers used bright pinks, rich teals, and shimmering golds set against the neutral tones of the desert to create an astonishing performance of color contrast. Talk about photogenic!

Lauren with Just Lovely Weddings rounded up an amazing vendor team to share these pops of color, teal accents, geometric shapes, and desert vibes along with the creative usage of a hexagon arch as your romantic backdrop.

Just when we think we’ve seen it all, something new pops its head around the corner and surprises us. Our vendors really know how to put on a show, and we want front row tickets. The bespoke invitations from Funky Olive, the combo of colors in the florals, the macarons in the cake (can you spot ’em?), the gorgeous wedding ring from Ooh! Aah! Jewelry, the breathtaking gown from Bridal Elegance by Darlene… we’re speechless.

Styled shoots are aways a group effort that showcase the talents of so many wonderful local wedding vendors and it really is a community effort, that’s why we love them so very much. We can’t seem to get enough of styled shoots, so keep them coming our way all of you beautiful people!

This shoot came to life with the help of Briana Nicole Photography and her magical camera-eye. Check out the gallery below!

Waves of Love: A Real Wedding with Kayla Kitts Photography

“The weather was beautiful, and the scenery to die for, but most of all it was so perfect because of all of the love.

The Perfect Wedding Guide team just got back from the 2019 Wedding MBA conference where we were able to sit in on some pretty amazing talks from professionals in the industry, meet other like-minded wedding business owners, and develop new skills. We are always looking for ways to ensure that we stay up to date with the fast-paced and ever-changing world of weddings, because we love what we do. We will talk a little bit more about what we learned later this month when we recap the event.

Something that we hear all of the time at big wedding talks is that every bride and groom should plan our their wedding and make sure that they set achievable goals for the big day, with the help of talented local vendors of course. When Azaira & Matthew were planning their wedding, they had one very important goal in mind: have the the best beach wedding ever– and they did just that!

Though we will always have a special place in our hearts for New Mexico weddings, destination weddings are just as alluring. This sandy beach wedding captured by Kayla Kitts Photography truly makes us want to put winter on hold, book a flight out of town, and throw on our swimsuits to get our party on! Just by looking through the gallery and seeing all of the smiles and laughter, we can tell that love was in the salty air.

Kayla has a way of not only capturing a moment in time, but also composing the shot perfectly to where it appears timeless. We can’t get enough!

Love poured through every part of the day; from the getting ready rooms, to the vows they recited to each other, and the toasts made by family and friends. Every bit of the day was filled with excitement, celebration, and happy tears, and it was so wonderful.

They promised to forever on the edge of the sunny beach, and celebrated with an epic dance party as the moon glistened on the water – and if you asked any of us if we wanted to do that day again, we’d say HECK YES!

The Big Fake Wedding

It’s no secret that when small businesses in New Mexico come together magic happens. We, your dutiful Perfect Wedding Guide team, have seen it with our own eyes time and time again. From local styled shoots straight from heaven, to real weddings that make large-scale celebrations seem effortless, to the all-out fantastical displays resurrected from dust in mere minutes at our wedding shows – you don’t have to sell us on New Mexico wedding professionals. We’re already straight up fangirls.

So when we caught wind that The Big Fake Wedding would be venturing out to our southwestern state, it came as no surprise. The traveling wedding show has been garnering popularity since they first got their start in 2008, and the landscapes alone make New Mexico an easy sell. Not to mention, The Big Fake Wedding is an alternative to the wedding shows we know and love, which offers our community something new to reinvigorate the wedding planning process.

By arranging their event to mimic an actual wedding, the attendees – who were local engaged couples – got to sit in on The Big Fake Wedding as if they were actual wedding guests. With a stunning stand-in bridal party and every detail planned meticulously, the engaged couples who participated got to sit back and watch the magic happen in real time.

As time drew nearer for the event to take place, it became clear that it was going to be something truly special. Each local business that decided to commit to collaborating on this project had already proved themselves as dedicated and creative wedding professionals. Knowing that businesses like The Cake Boutique –who would be crafting up something spectacular to look at and eat – and For the Love of Flowers with their renowned floral artistry, would be there? And it was going to be at one of our absolute favorite venues, Nature Pointe? Well, we were nearly bursting at the seams with excitement by the time the day arrived.

We’d like to say the day was exactly as wonderful as we’d imagine it would be, but we have to be honest. No matter the prep, no matter the insider knowledge we had about the event, and no matter the counting down the days, nothing could have properly prepared us for how lovely The Big Fake Wedding actually was.

And of course, now that the time has passed, words fail us as well. Only photos from local wedding photographers like Cloak Photography, Bri-lliancy Photography, and Alysha Lee Photography could capture the magic that we knew was coming, but still exceeded our expectations. We are still officially in awe.

3 Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Ring in New Mexico

Here at Perfect Wedding Guide, we try to not make too much of a fuss about any one particular facet of the wedding planning process. Instead, we keep it light to remind engaged couples that, despite the budgets, in-laws, and hundreds of tiny details they’re in the midst of dealing with, it’s all bringing them closer to a happy new life.

That being said, when it comes to your rings — a little bit of fuss is usually recommended! While you’re actually talking to the person holding it, your engagement ring is still the very first ‘yes’ in a long line of wedding-related proclamations. Then, later, your wedding ring becomes a staple part of your every day life, living as a sparkling reminder of your vow to love til death do you part.

So, not to stir up unnecessary anxieties, but we don’t want you to live the rest of your life feeling anything but that same joy you felt when you said ‘yes’ every time you look down at your hands. Luckily, the incredible wedding jewelers of New Mexico feel the same way. Which is why local shops like Ooh Aah Jewelry have dedicated their expert knowledge of jewelry-making to their community of engaged couples.

After 30 years of operating in Albuquerque’s central hub, Nob Hill, Ooh Aah Jewelry has become a beloved landmark of the area. It’s the expertise of their team which elevates the jewelry scene in New Mexico to new heights, and offers couples a sense of confidence moving forward with their jewelry choices.

So, along with some brand new designs that show off Ooh Aah‘s impeccable ability to blend the modern with the timeless, we have 3 expert-approved tips for choosing your wedding and engagement rings. To contact their team for even more advice, guidance, and gorgeous gems, you can reach Ooh Aah Jewelry here.

1. Start early, like, even earlier than you’d expect

If you have the time in your busy schedules, start your ring shopping early. Once you’ve done some research on your budget, local jewelry shops, and the stone + cut combinations you like, try to jump right in to actually trying the rings on.

If you can choose your wedding ring and engagement ring together — even better! You only really need 3-4 months before your wedding date to ensure there’s plenty of time for your jeweler to make custom changes and size the ring. But if you can get them both together, that’s one less step to worry about in the middle of planning a wedding, and it means you don’t have to go hunting for something to match your engagement ring, especially if its unique.

2. Keep your current and future lifestyles in mind

What does your life look like on a daily basis? Are you or your partner in the military? Do either of you play a sport or work out daily? Do you play an instrument? Are you planning on starting any of these activities sometime soon? All of these things, which might not come to mind right away, can seriously affect your wedding ring choice.

While your jeweler at Ooh Aah Jewelry will know what you can wear while playing a violin or being deployed, they won’t know what to recommend for you if they don’t know about these aspects of your lifestyle. So, if there’s anything that could affect the wear of your ring, be sure to let them know! A simple fix like thinner bands, different gem stones, or stronger metals will be in your future.

3. Switch things up a bit

Some engaged couples have been dreaming of their wedding rings since childhood, and some haven’t given them a second thought until just now, when they started reading this blog post. Whichever party you fit into, it usually bears repeating that switching things up a bit will do you some good.

We, as people, get stuck in our styles and habits pretty fiercely. Behind the glass counter though, a lot of jewelers have seen magical things happen when a couple decides to try on a ring that’s completely different from what they’ve had in mind. Now, you might not switch from a simple band to an ornate vintage cut on a whim, but it could open you up to different style combinations. So, especially if you’re having trouble falling in love with a ring, try on something a little out of character, and see where it takes you!

National Picnic Day: Wedding Inspo

You brought the prosciutto and brie, right? It is National Picnic Day after all! But don’t worry too much if you haven’t dusted off your trusted wicker basket for the special occasion. We’ve got you pretty well covered for your dose of picnic appreciation today with a meticulously planned, perfectly executed, apple-blossom-inspired styled shoot from Coryn Kiefer Photography, one of Albuquerque’s favorite wedding photographers.

If Coryn’s unique name rings a delicate little bell in your head, it’s probably because we were just obsessing over her ballerina styled shoot just a few weeks ago. Normally we spread the love all around for our local wedding professionals here in New Mexico, but frankly, this shoot made our hearts flutter upon first sight. Within a private, blooming forest framing the exquisite details, this picnic-styled elopement has us ready to throw out everything we know about traditional wedding celebrations.

A palette of baby pink, robin’s egg blue, and a rich mustard yellow complimented the natural green landscape and perfectly cocooned the essence of spring in one moment. Pulling the mythical vibes into the realm of modernity, the bride wore a Maggie Sottero gown from Bridal Elegance by Darlene adorned with ornate lace and gently sparkling beadwork. As Coryn Kiefer Photography commented, “Who says elopement brides have to give up on their dream dress?”

Keeping with our garden theme, we decided to forgo the usual sweetheart table for an intimate picnic of champagne and cake. Colorful throw pillows, vintage lanterns and a small wooden table were placed on a hand woven ivory quilt. Silver flatware, bronze candlesticks and pink water goblets complete the casual elegance of this cozy setup.

Our natural outdoor setting was a private apple orchard in the heart of Corrales New Mexico. The inspiration behind the setting was to combine the airy elegance of the spring season with modern notion of an elegant, and personal, elopement. Modern and vintage décor elements were artfully tied together to help bring this vision to life.
