Meet Mesa Makeup

Hi lovely NM brides! We are Summer and Erica of Mesa Makeup and are super excited to be a part of the Perfect Wedding Guide family! Before we get into our top 10 dos and don’ts of wedding makeup, we wanted to tell you a little bit about our business and what we think sets us apart.

When we decided to pool our talents into Mesa Makeup, we wanted to create an experience for our brides rather than just a makeup service. In order to do that, we spend a little more time on skin prep so that everyone feels relaxed and pampered before the makeup magic begins! We are also the only makeup artists in New Mexico to offer a full makeup and skincare application using only clean cosmetics – meaning those products are free from chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and other potentially unsafe ingredients. We have spent a lot of time researching and testing different “clean” products to ensure that these items meet our standards for long lasting, gorgeous makeup! In addition, we can assist you in creating a gift package for your bride tribe containing some of our favorite New Mexico-made skincare, spa, and beauty products!

FUN FACTS | Before we started Mesa Makeup, we both were students at the University of Minnesota at the same time but didn’t actually meet until makeup school! Summer is fluent in Spanish and Erica is a polymer scientist.

Now For Our Top Ten!

  1. DO start a skincare routine as soon as possible! Makeup will look better and last longer if your skin is healthy and well cared for. We recommend figuring out your skin type (normal, dry, oily, or combo) and concerns (fine lines, acne, age spots, etc.) and talking to an esthetician to help you get a skincare routine established.
  2. DON’T try out any new products within a few weeks of your wedding date. Sometimes an ingredient in a new product may irritate your skin. We also recommend avoiding any harsh skincare treatments (e.g. chemical peel, waxing) within a week or two of your wedding for the same reason. Remember MUAs can cover discoloration but we can’t get rid of texture!
  3. DO have a trial makeup run beforehand. This lets you get to know your artist and their makeup style to see if you vibe well. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about the day of if you already know your makeup is going to be perfect! It’s also nice to schedule this before an engagement shoot so you can see how the makeup photographs.
  4. DON’T worry about changing your mind about your makeup on the day of your wedding! It happens frequently and we promise it won’t hurt our feelings if you want something changed!
  5. If you aren’t doing a trial DO bring pictures of makeup styles you like. This also goes for anyone in your bride tribe or bridal party having makeup done. It helps get you and your artist on the same page from the beginning so there are no surprises at the end!
  6. DON’T be afraid to wear a little more makeup than you usually wear on your wedding day. We want you to look good both in person and in your photos so we may suggest a deeper eyeshadow or lip color than you originally thought so you don’t look washed out in photos.
  7. DO respect the timeline you and your MUA establish. No one likes to be running late so ensuring you and your party are on time and ready to start at their allotted times!
  8. DON’T be afraid to try fake eyelashes. We have a ton of different styles to choose from and can customize any lash to you! We also have lashes that work well for first timers that are very comfortable to wear.
  9. DO ask us about our clean cosmetics package, what our favorite products are, and where we get them! Also DO pick Erica’s brain on ingredient safety and where you can learn more about it.
  10. DO leave your vendors a review. It lets us know how we did, helps us improve, and also helps other brides in their search to find professionals best suited to their styles/needs!

We can’t wait to meet you and we hope you have a Happy New Year!

Bliss Salon and Spa: A Review of Albuquerque’s Finest

Who could have known, when Bliss Salon and Spa first opened their doors in 2009, that they would grow to be one of Albuquerque’s most beloved one-stop beauty shops? Well… actually, most of their clients probably did. The family owned and operated business has been famed for its welcoming environment for 9 years now, and the quality of their services has only continued to evolve with each passing year.

Most often, when we highlight a local business or wedding professional, it’s because their products or services have taken the wedding world by storm. We’ll hear about them from locally engaged couples, other wedding vendors, wedding guests — you name it. This is true of Bliss, of course, but we also have personal experience with the salon and spa.

Not only does their team provide the hair and makeup for our models at the Diamond Dash and Wedding Gallery couture fashion shows, but recently I also had the opportunity to come in the shop for a pedicure. Let me tell you, my toes have never been happier. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warmth of a regular, and treated with the utmost kindness. While their nail artist made my feet look like that of a princess, we chatted amicably about her time in cosmetology school, and how lucky she felt to work at Bliss Salon and Spa with her best friend and some of the most talented people in Albuquerque.

Then, as if the glorious pedicure wasn’t enough for me, I mentioned to the front desk receptionist that I needed a hair trim and that I should make an appointment for the following week. Before I could blink they had a chair open for me and a cape around my neck. The same lovely and talented nail artist pulled out her scissors and started trimming my hair.

Normally would have been hesitant, as I’ve only ever had my hair cut professionally one other time, but I remembered the raving reviews for Bliss Salon and Spa that litter their listing on the Perfect Wedding Guide site, and felt totally confident in their team’s abilities. I was right, too! She took my overgrown, mostly dead hair and transformed it into a chic bob with the perfect amount of messiness to match my personal style.

While it might not be on the visible horizon for me just yet, I know without a doubt which team of stylists I want there with me on my wedding day. {It’s Bliss Salon and Spa, if that wasn’t already abundantly clear.} After seeing so many brides, bridesmaids, and models have their natural beauty illuminated with care and consideration by their team, I know how comfortable and confident I’d feel having Carmen Joe, Bliss Salon‘s owner, and her team of incredible women styling me for such an important day.

Thank you to the whole team for working so diligently to provide Albuquerque + Santa Fe’s wedding parties with the best service our state has to offer! We’re so grateful for you.

Beauty for Lashes Saves the Day

Since my teenage years, I have always strived for long, dark, luxurious eye-defining lashes and I feel like I have tried everything to achieve them;  from falsies (two words: glue everywhere) to different serums, which worked great initially but after hearing how many crazy chemicals were involved, I could no longer have it anywhere near my eyes.

I finally had the opportunity to talk with one of our most trusted resources in the beauty world, Paula Hill with Beauty for Lashes.

Some quick background on Paula:  She has been certified with Xtremelashes for almost 7 years after working in medicine for 23 years.  She has been specializing in makeup for events and weddings for the last 8 years.

{Brides, Mother of the Bride, Wedding Parties}

Here is some of her recent work. Doesn’t this bride look absolutely stunning? Totally thought it was Kim Kardashian at first glance!

*Makeup and Lashes done by Paula.

     I told Paula about my quest to the perfect lashes and she let me in on a little secret; Amplifeye is the name and longer REAL beautiful eyelashes is the game.

“A targeted treatment like no other, Amplifeye Lash & Brow Fortifier combines a maximum concentration of three proven peptide complexes, vitamins, and ten nutrient-rich botanical extracts to nourish and fortify eyelashes and eyebrows in one step. Utilizing a liposomal delivery system, this amino acid-rich formula conditions, strengthens, and prevents premature eyelash and brow loss. With daily use, eyelashes and brows appear dramatically longer, stronger, fuller and more abundant.”

In short it works on lashes and brows and is ALL natural. This product contains no prostaglandin so it doesn’t have the potential side affects like other similar products- which we absolutely love. This short video did an awesome job of explaining the benefits of Amplifeye.

And to all my girls out there with eyelash extensions-  it is also made to use along with the extensions safely- we love that too!

{“I have had clients wearing lashes for 6 years so it is nice to have a product like this to use in conjunction with the extensions.”- Paula Hill}

Good news! Paula is retailing Amplifeye for $99 right now. Regular retail price is $119 and the serum can last up to 3 months depending how often you are using it.

{That’s only $33 a month!}

She also sells wonderful glideliner pencils which are semi permanent.  The best thing about the liner? It doesn’t smudge and it lasts a LONG time!

*The pencils are $30 and come with a free sharpener specifically made for the product.

Here are some more deals that you absolutely cannot miss out on with Beauty for Lashes.

  • Mention that Perfect Wedding Guide sent you her way and for the month of February  new clients get a  full set of lashes for $199 { normally priced at $225}. On the fence about getting lash extensions? Check out these insane before and after photos!
  •  Refer two clients who get a new set and automatically get your first refill free!

 All that’s left now is how to get in touch asap… we have you covered.
