Rick Saul Photography {Professional Spotlight}

We’re sure you’ve gleaned this from our endless scroll of real wedding and styled shoot content, but in case you haven’t: we. love. wedding. inspiration. But as far-reaching and all-encomapssing as our love is for heartwarming, tear-jerking love stories, our adoration for local wedding professionals is twice as intense. Why is it that so?

Because wedding experts are the ones who make the inspiration come to life.

Might sound simple, but when you consider the years of training, amount of equipment, late nights and the blood, sweat, and tears that go into creating a small business from the ground up, it really is no small feat.  Which is why we’re endlessly impressed with Albuquerque + Santa Fe’s local wedding professionals. There’s a lot of hard work and community support needed to venture out into the business world, but key ingredient needed for a successful small business, especially a creative one like photography, is passion.

Which, thankfully, Rick Saul Photography has plenty of. Rick, the creative behind the business name, first began dabbling in photography when he was 8 years old. Lucky for us wedding lovers in New Mexico, someone gifted Rick a box camera at the young age, and the curiosity and love for the craft continued with him throughout his life.

Now, years after that first photo with his first box camera, Rick has bolstered his natural talent with a healthy knowledge of the creative pursuit that only comes with decades of practice. {He even took intel photographs while serving in the Navy, and crime scene photos while working with NCIS. Talk about a range of experience!}

Rick Saul Photography uses this unparalleled expertise to ensure every couple their team works with is not only comfortable and happy on their wedding day, but that they also have classic, tangible reminders of this happiness for lifetimes to come. By using two shooters, male and female, they avoid any discomfort and are able to capture special moments as the groom and bride get ready for their vows, as the photographic storytellers they are. With a documentary-style aesthetic approach that utilizes natural light, the Rick Saul Photography team captures moments that won’t reveal their age as the ephemeral trends of photography come and go.

With all this in mind, we’re honored to have Rick Saul Photography here in New Mexico, serving well-deserved couples the best wedding photography this state has to offer. Simply put though, we love their team because they also create the wedding inspo that drives our work and warms our hearts. {Like the goodies below, courtesy of their team! Scroll on!}

To Boudoir or To Not Boudoir? 5 Reasons Every Bride Should Have A Shoot

Not every wedding trend is going to be your jam, obviously. Maybe you opted for deep, jewel tones instead of the traditional muted hues and pastels. Maybe you went totally 1940’s classic chic as opposed to the rustic, burlap-and-lace vibe. Or maybe you threw out the whole wedding, and instead had a styled elopement! {Like this — totally one of our favorites.} Isn’t that the great part of weddings? How truly collaborative and customizable the whole experience is?

Okay but wait, before we get carried away talking about how much we love weddings, there’s one wedding trend that truly transcends all personal aesthetic choices: boudoir photography. It’s a bit controversial, sure, but regardless of your style, there’s space in your wedding planning for a boudoir shoot. We promise.

Though not every bride-to-be is sold on the idea of getting super vulnerable in front of the lens. {Which, as a fellow shy person, I understand and couldn’t imagine doing it myself.} But when we sat down with one of our favorite photographers, Shannon MacLean from Chandelier Studio, to chat about boudoir photography — her speciality — it totally changed the way we think of the art form.

My absolute favorite part of each shoot is the reveal, because as fun as it is to create ‘pretty pictures,’ creating lasting love for who she is as a woman is far more rewarding.

Shannon, Chandelier Studio

So we asked Shannon to come up with her top 5 reasons why every bride should do a boudoir shoot. Scroll on, friend! You can book Chandelier Studio for your personalized shoot here.

{Not sold yet? Don’t worry, you will be by the reason #5 and can book using the link at the end.}

1. Get comfortable in front of the camera. Because let’s face it, most brides are regular human people, and many of us human people feel uncomfortable having our photo taken. Don’t wait until your wedding to try and rectify this anxiety — get cozy with a Canon before your big day and have one less thing to worry about.

2. It’s the perfect wedding day gift. Stuck trying to figure out something meaningful to pass on to your soon-to-be spouse? Not anymore!

3. Capture your ‘wedding bod’ while it’s extra fabulous. Disclaimer: all bodies are beautiful, and your body will be beautiful on your wedding day and on your 40th anniversary. But if you’ve been putting in some extra work to feel particularly perfect on your big day well then, hello! Let’s celebrate that!

ChandelierStudio3

4. Learn posture and posing techniques to look great in your wedding photos. ‘Cause again, there are going to be a lot of cameras trained on you for your big day. We all know our best angles when it’s just us alone in the mirror, of course, but with a boudoir shoot as a practice round, you can learn to manifest those killer poses even outside of your bathroom.

5. The first wedding anniversary theme is paper — gift your spouse with an album! Already got the perfect, meaningful gift for your wedding day? Not a problem. Have your gorgeous photos made into an album or print, and ta-da! You’ve got the first anniversary covered ahead of time.

Real Wedding with Matt Blasing Photography: Instagram Takeover

If this wedding looks familiar, it’s not just because the love between Katie + George is so pure and comforting. {Though it totally is.} You’re probably remembering the incredibly thoughtful details from our Instagram story a couple weeks ago. Captured by the ever-talented Matt Blasing Photography, the local photography team allowed us a behind-the-scenes look at Katie + George’s celebration at Nature Pointe.

Taking all of us along on their journey to express the couple’s love story through the lens, Matt Blasing Photography showed us not only how stunning the day was, but also the magic that spawns from combining two unique lives into one. Now, with the final photos from the team, even more intimate details are clear. From the muted blue hues of the bridesmaids gowns, to the carefully considered features of their menus and invitations, Katie + George elucidated their values as a couples, and the intricate components of their love.

Blending their home states of New Mexico and Texas, Katie + George had a wedding logo created to represent their coalescence. Featured on their cake topper, paper products, and even some delicious cookies, the logo polka-dotted the details of the day, reminding guests and loved ones of just how special was this union.

Matt + Amy, of Matt Blasing Photography, were the first and only choice for Katie + George. After meeting the wedding professionals at a wedding show, the couple knew they were the perfect match. {They even booked Matt Blasing Photography before they had a venue!}

The morning after our wedding and we are still grinning ear to ear. The Blasing duo are the best wedding photography team any couple could dream of! […] Their kindness and friendliness from the start made us feel so comfortable!

George, groom

And the feeling was mutual! Amy, when describing Katie + George’s wedding day, called it a labor of love.

Their families were both so supportive, and their wedding was truly a labor of the love of family and friends. Many pre- and post-wedding events were hosted by friends and family to celebrate their marriage.

We’re so grateful to have been a part of this wedding day, albeit only tangentially. Thank you Katie + George for allowing us a peak into your day of love, and to Matt Blasing Photography for capturing it so beautifully, as always!

Desert Elopement on White Mesa {Styled Shoot}

At this point, you’d be hard pressed to find a local engaged couple that hasn’t yet been inspired by one of Maura Jane Photography‘s styled shoots or wedding photos. For 9 years, Maura has been capturing weddings in New Mexico and beyond, adding her signature touch of radiance to every shoot. Her sweet demeanor and dedication to the craft shines through her work — how lucky are we to have her here in our beautiful state?!

Constantly drawing inspiration from her Southwestern surroundings, Maura and her team effortlessly blend the ephemerality of a moment with the enduring grandeur of local landscapes. Pretty much every time she shares a shoot with us — from her Storybook Styled Shoot in the snow, to the Romantic Mountain Elopement in the Sandias — we all agree that this one is our favorite so far. But don’t let our obsession diminish what you’re about to read:

This one is our favorite so far.

With the White Mesa as a focal point, each detail of this styled shoot both blends with and enhances the others. From Teresa Romero‘s Victorian-inspired gown, to Darling Details‘ vintage couch, it’s clear that Maura’s talent extends past photography and makes her a master of collaboration as well.

Quite frankly, we’re floored by what local wedding professionals are creating with just a little bit of inspiration and a whole lot of teamwork.

Its so easy to find inspiration in the beautiful landscape that surrounds us in our state of New Mexico. From the pink Sandia mountains that tower over Albuquerque’s city to the unique white mesa’s that wind through the Land of Enchantment’s desert.

Hot Air Balloon Styled Shoot with Tori Photography

wedding planning design decor inspo real local New Mexico Perfect Wedding Guide couple bright color blue orange red hot air balloon love romantic dancing landscape outdoor detail tea length lace gown styled shoot

The pre-spring winds here in New Mexico aren’t the only thing blowing us away today! Mimicking the buoyancy and uninhibited joy that is riding in a hot air balloon, this inspired shoot by Tori Photography has swept us off our feet. {Puns always intended.}

We have always been impressed with Tori, the creative behind Tori Photography of course, and her attention to detail… But this shoot has us stuck in a summer daydream! Splashes of vibrant primary colors contrasts energetically with the serene landscape of Tanoan Country Club, and the bursting bouquet frames the lighthearted couple perfectly.

Red, blue, and yellow pop off Tori Photography‘s stunning photos, Differently Designed‘s invitations, and Black Bow Event‘s tablescape. You can practically smell the honeysuckle that was surely blooming just out of frame, and feel the gentle summer breeze. Pairing Tori’s keen eye and innate ability to make her models comfortable, this shoot proves something we’ve known all along: Albuquerque + Santa Fe‘s creative collaborations always result in magic.

That, and that there is no wrong way to do a wedding! Straying from the traditional muted hues, lace edges, and sprigs of baby’s breath, this shoot stands out with it’s unapologetic vivaciousness and vitality. Now, there’s no need to throw out the lace entirely yet — because, c’mon, it’s beautiful — but let this out-of-the-box shoot change the way you think about your own future wedding. You can have anything your heart desires, no matter the theme, color palette, or style, and know that there are wedding professionals here in New Mexico who will make your dreams come true with elegance and perseverance.
