Trending: Suspended Wedding Decor

It’s easy to see why suspended wedding decor has become so popular in the recent years. If you have ever seen these delightful decorations, you know exactly what I’m talking about! They add a magical touch that simply can’t be accomplished any other way. With a little creativity, the possibilities for suspended wedding decorations are endless.

For example, you can use chandeliers, jars with candles or flowers, balloons, lanterns, leaves, umbrellas and so on. One of the most popular options for hanging decor, however, are light bulbs. The clusters of hanging Edison bulbs give the impression of sitting beneath the stars. They’re super romantic and perfect for adding a modern touch to any venue.

The obvious and most beautiful option, however, are flowers! Suspended flowers are super gorg and even more tempting over an altar or dinner table. And because they are so versatile, you can create a look that’s prim and proper or wild and whimsical. I personally prefer the latter with flowers and greenery draping over the edges like nature intended.

Finally, if you have a tight budget the good news is that many of the of the options for suspended decor are DIY friendly. Making paper flowers, for instance, is a budget friendly option to have suspended decor at your wedding. Not to mention, they look just as beautiful and you can easily create a focal point over the bride’s and groom’s dinner table.

Isleta Resort & Casino Wedding {Garrett + Jeri Ann}

Planning a wedding has never been easier, thanks to Isleta Resort & Casino. With all inclusive packages, they literally take care of every detail of your wedding with ease and all you have to do is enjoy the happiest day of your life. In fact, Garrett and Jeri Ann Weisensel can attest to the amazing job the team at Isleta did on their gorgeous wedding last fall.

Starting with Jeri Ann’s bridal shower, which took place at the Isleta Golf Club, the team went above and beyond to make sure the bride and her guests felt at home. On the wedding day, they had everything ready to go long before the bride and groom returned for their reception. After posing for some beautiful photos at the Jar Spa, they proceeded to the reception hall, where their guests were awaiting their grand entrance.

With over 400 guests to accommodate for their reception, the Grand Ballroom was just perfect. Their reception included a cocktail hour along with dinner and dancing. They chose the “Honeymoon in Italy” dinner package and their wedding cake was made by Isleta’s in-house assistant Pastry Chef, Casey Trent — who makes all of Isleta’s custom wedding cakes.

Isleta Resort & Casino is really something special! From my bridal shower to my wedding day the service, staff, food and atmosphere was astounding! I could not be happier with the quality and professionalism of the services provided by the event staff, banquet staff, reservation staff, bell/valet service, and staff at the golf course, where my bridal shower took place. Cindy and all the staff who assisted her did a job well done to make sure our day was special. On our wedding day and my bridal shower we had full confidence that they would ensure that each moment was most memorable.

I remember taking a peek at the ballroom the night before, it was 7:30 in the evening, and the banquet staff were still working hard to prepare for our wedding the next day. The staff was very attentive and asked if I was happy with the setup and if there were any changes that needed to be made. I had no changes, but I was just speechless because it looked so beautiful. The wait staff were very nice and attentive to all of our guests, which I appreciate! The bell service the day after the wedding to assist with loading our vehicles with gifts were amazing. They handled our goods with care and took their time when loading. We truly appreciated their patience and helpfulness.

Cindy, herself, was very responsive when I had questions or needed opinions. A bride and groom should not be overwhelmed with decisions on their wedding day, which Isleta made sure not to do because everything they needed from us and final touches were taken care of well in advance! I am so happy with Isleta Resort & Casino as our reception venue, I cannot thank them enough for the exceptional service.

New Year’s Wedding Bash {Dominic + Erin}

What better way to ring in the New Year than saying, I do? You have all the trimmings, the bubbly and someone to kiss at midnight. Sounds like a match made in heaven! Like their personalities, everything about their wedding sparkled into the night — from Erin’s ring and sparkling shoes to the twinkle lights in the reception hall. And from the look of their wedding photos, it’s easy to see that these two like to have fun!

Once they got hitched, Dominic and Erin boarded a party bus to celebrate their new adventure together! As they drove off into the sunset and made there way to the reception venue at The Event Center at Sandia Golf Club, the newlyweds and their crew partied like it was 1999 aboard their sweet ride. All the while, the teams from The Event Center and Black Swan Events already had everything decked out for their arrival!

After a romantic photo shoot on the greens with Alexander Photography, it was time to par-tay! And to make sure their guests had enough energy to dance the night away, they served up their gorgeous wedding cake covered in purple and silver confetti by Simply Sweet by Darci. And when the clock struck midnight, they not only started a new year together, but a new life — truly a match made in heaven!

I highly recommend The Event Center at Sandia Golf Club to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue. The food, views, and service are top notch. We couldn’t be happier with how our daughter’s reception turned out. The staff is very professional and met all our needs. We had the best time ringing in the New Year!

Reception Games: The New Dance Off!

Today’s bride and groom are all about experiences. And when it comes to their reception, more couples are planning fun, relaxed and kid friendly soirées for their guests. In fact, one of the trends sweeping the wedding scene is having games at the reception. If you are planning a wedding and want to guarantee your guests will have fun, games are the way to go!

Depending on the theme of your wedding, you can have fun planning the games that will suit your style. From board games to carnival games, you can plan just about anything to make sure your guests are having fun and interacting with each other. To help you come up with ideas, here’s a list of some fun games you might plan on playing with your guests!

  1. Board Games – One of the easiest things to have at your wedding are board games like Candy Land, Scrabble or Mystery Date!
  2. Jumbo Games – Jumbo games can really make a statement at your wedding including Dominoes, Connect Four, Checkers and Chess.
  3. Summer Camp Games – Go back to your days at summer camp with a game of Tug-of-War or Sack Racing.
  4. Carnival Games – Balloon Darts, Ring Toss, a Hot Dog Eating Contest or a Bake-Off. Have guests bring their best desert for a chance to win a prize!
  5. Video Games – For your inner gamer, try  creating an arcade with Dance Dance Revolution and old school Super Mario or Duck Hunt.
  6. Lawn Games – For a more sophisticated spin on wedding games, try lawn games including Croquet, Mini Golf or Bocce Ball.

La Boda Real: The Royal Wedding {Edmund + Danielle}

Throughout their regal wedding at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort in Albuquerque, it was evident that Danielle and Edmund were a match made in heaven. As “Spanish Royalty,” the theme for their big day, every detail of their wedding displayed their elegant style in a sea of red and gold with pops of peach and white. Everything from the stately crown atop the cake to the golden candelabras that adorned the tables was picture perfect!

Married at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church on September third of last year, it was the start of a magical union, sure to have a fairy tale ending. Recommissioning El Camino Real for their royal procession, a caravan of doting friends and family made their way to the Crowne Plaza in celebration. Upon making their grand entrance as man and wife in the reception hall, they were greeted with cheers and well wishes of their new life together.

After enjoying their first dinner as a married couple, it was time to dive into their perfect cake from Simply Sweet by Darci. But before they could partake of their beautiful confection, the rain gently interrupted the celebration with good luck. The photographers of Bryan’s Photography rushed the couple outdoors to capture romantic shots beneath the grand colonnades of the Crowne Plaza while the rain fell around them.

Danielle and Edmund were married on September 3, 2016 at a beautiful traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. Afterward, the party got started at their “Spanish Royalty” themed wedding reception at the Crowne Plaza. Danielle had lovingly collected antique brass containers and candelabras from local Albuquerque antique stores during their two year engagement to add the glow of candlelight with a regal ambiance. During the reception, the rain brought good luck and the newly married couple was whisked outside by their photographer to capture gorgeous shots of the two kissing in the rain under the Crowne Plaza’s beautiful white columns before heading back inside to dance the night away.

Bridal Board + Vendor Mixer: Their Questions, Your Perspective!

We recently had our annual Bridal Board + Vendor Mixer and it was a huge success! While we enjoyed gourmet cuisine from Isleta Resort & Casino, local brides, grooms and newlyweds sat on our panel to answer some tough questions from local wedding professionals.

Whether you’re a wedding professional or planning your own wedding, however, we gathered lots of good info and we’d love to share it with you! As you plan your wedding, we thought you may want to get a perspective on the experience of other brides and grooms in town.

Take a look at the Q&A from the Bridal Board + Vendor Mixer!

  1. What is the most important thing you are looking for when hiring a wedding professional? Brides and grooms want to be able to trust the vendor and to feel important. We want you to make everything all about us. Show up to appointments on time and respond in a timely manner. We want you to take our ideas seriously and to know that you’re genuinely interested and care about us.
  2. What turns you off about wedding professionals you interview? Not replying to inquiries. Getting our name wrong. Errors on your website. If you don’t represent yourselves well and have no confidence in your work. We don’t like when you’re scripted. It comes across disingenuous. And we certainly don’t like receiving automated email after we’re already married, so make sure you know who you’re sending correspondence. We don’t like to be looked at like we’re too young or for you to force your own ideas on us. And it’s a big turn off when you bash the competition.
  3. What are things a wedding professional did or can do to exceed your expectations? Demonstrate a lot of examples of work, specifically, unique work. Offer affordable prices. Take time to find out our journey and what we want. Be available. The more you communicate the better. Pay attention and be personal. We want to set our expectations high. Doing the little things will stand out.
  4. What are your preferred methods of communication, i.e. offers, coupons, promotions, etc.? Email. We don’t like to receive a lot of calls. Text messages are fine. But make sure to ask what we prefer.
  5. How important is food and what price? Food is extremely important to today’s brides and grooms. We are foodies and love experiences with food. We like food trucks, variety and flexibility. Couples will eliminate entire venues or caterers if we don’t like the menu.
  6. Is there something a wedding professional did or can do to inspire you to go another direction? Styled photo shoots. They help us see the possibilities.
  7. What are price expectations for officiants? We think it’s strange that prices range from 150-500. Officiants should have a fair and consistent price.
  8. What do you use to find vendors? Word of mouth, bridal shows and Perfect Wedding Guide.  And no, we didn’t encourage them to say this (lol) – but of course, it made us giddy inside to hear them have great experiences with our wedding community.
  9. How much does social media influence your planning? A lot. It’s quick and easy. And we love Pinterest!
