Pure Elegance: A Real Wedding at The Event Center at Sandia Golf Club

“The wedding of Emilee and Ben can be described by one word: stunning! Their wedding was truly one of pure elegance, mixed with timeless decor elements and floral arrangements. Their reception decor filled the ballroom with a soft and romantic ambiance.”

– Lauren, event center at sandia golf club

What do you think of when you hear the word “elegance”? For us here at Wedding Collective, flowing, floor-length gowns, flower petals scattered everywhere, and timeless decor are just a few things that come to mind. However, we’ve recently found that elegance can take many forms and in this new age of innovative weddings, anything is possible. For Emilee + Ben, to describe their wedding as anything less than pure elegance would be an understatement.

This couple really knows how to celebrate love in the most New Mexican way – with the stunning views of the Sandia Mountains front and center! With the help of the phenomenal staff at their chosen venue, The Event Center at Sandia Golf Club, Emilee + Ben were able to pull off a wedding that embraced their personal love of timeless elegance and the breathtaking views of the New Mexican landscape. Although the the wedding looked like something straight out of a dream, it was far more than a fairytale, it was the most genuine and real testament to their love for each other.

Emilee + Ben carefully chose wedding vendors that shared their vision and style. It’s pretty obvious that they have good taste because everything turned out incredible – decor, photography, venue, and all! Every aspect of their wedding came together seamlessly and we’re fawning over all of the details. We want more!

“There’s no better feeling than marrying your best friend. To be able to do that in such a beautiful setting as the Event Center, with staff that made the day flawless, feels like a dream come true. As an Albuquerque native, having the Sandia Mountains a part of our day was important to me and being able to host all our friends and family was a must. The Event Center and their staff went above and beyond to make our big day perfect and to make us feel like royalty. I wish I could relive the day over 100 more times!”

– Emilee, bride

When you marry your best friend, you know it’s going to be the party of a lifetime. The Event Center at Sandia Golf Club, along with a number of other talented New Mexico wedding vendors, made sure that Emilee + Ben had a celebration that nobody would forget.

How to Plan Your Ideal Honeymoon

The Wedding Collective team is dreaming about the sound of waves crashing upon the shore and, surprisingly, even the chaotic nature of navigating our way through theme parks. Along with our engaged couples, we’re especially dreaming about romantic getaways with our partners.

Although going on a romantic getaway seems unheard of these days, it doesn’t mean that it is going to be this way forever. In fact, we’re anxiously awaiting safer and brighter days where we can hop on the next flight to Disneyland! Now is the perfect time to plan ahead, make must-see lists, and get hyped up for your future honeymoon with the love of your life. For many engaged couples, planning a honeymoon may seem like the last thing you want to worry about, and it is often seen as a stressful task.

Were here to make planning your future honeymoon enjoyable and easy with some tips and tricks, all while connecting you with some of our favorite local wedding travel gurus. Tip #1…

1. Make Lists + Brainstorm

This is first on our list because, well, we love lists for planning, and second, it is the best way to stay organized throughout your planning process. Creating a list gives you something to refer back to as you move forward and will keep you on track! Plus, it’s exciting to actually write down all of the travel ideas that you’ve had in your head and see them become a reality.

When listing, start with all of the places you want to go for your romantic honeymoon – do you want to travel to a different country or domestically? Will you take a road trip or hop on a plane? What kind of lodging do you want? Break it up into categories and start looking at your options. Talk to your significant other about their desires and see what you can narrow it down to. You can download the template below to help you plan your dream honeymoon:

2. Budget, budget, budget

This may seem like the dreaded aspect of planning a honeymoon, but it is really the most important part of the process because it will keep you realistic about your options. I know, sadly, not everyone has a million bucks to drop on a romantic private seaside retreat with a personal chef, and if you do, mind taking us along with you? In all seriousness, though, budgeting helps you travel without the stress of running low on funds and will result in a more enjoyable vacation with your honey.

There are lots of free budgeting apps for your phone, or you could do it the old fashioned way. Another option is to have your travel agent help you out with your budget and spending limitations. Cue the gurus!

3. Find a Travel Agent

This is where some of our wedding travel gurus come in – hurray! Working with a travel agent is important because they are incredibly knowledgable on everything travel related and can ensure you’re getting the best for your budget, time, and energy. With your interests in mind, travel agents will take the stress out of booking lodging, finding flights, and site-seeing.

Many agents specialize in certain destinations, like our own lovely Renee Cuessy with Rope Drop Travel. Renee works with couples and families to plan Disney, Universal, cruise and all-inclusive vacations. As Disney and Universal lovers ourselves, we’re pretty jealous that she gets to do this as her job! If you’re looking to bring some magic into your honeymoon, then she’s your gal! You can get in contact with Renee here for more information.

4. Research the Local Culture

Once you’ve planned your destination, you can start creating your itinerary and get familiar with the local culture. If you’re traveling out of the country, let’s say to a resort off the coast of Mexico, you’ll want to make sure that you’re prepared to be able to communicate with the locals in order to get around and immerse yourself with new friends you’ll make a long the way. Exploring new food options, clothing, and languages is all part of the experience. Even if you’re staying in the states, respecting cultures should be your top priority in any place you’re unfamiliar with – and having fun + relaxing comes next!

If you want to plan your honeymoon at an awesome resort out of the country, or even in the country, another great local travel guru is Travel To Amazing Places. They will help you plan the most romantic getaways yet, all around the world! From that lovely resort off the coast of Mexico to hot-spots in Hawaii, the options are endless. You can get in contact with these experts here for more information.

5. Finally, Have Fun

Ah, the best part. You’re embarking on your first big, or even little, journey as newlyweds. The planning is over and now it’s all about having fun and getting your romance on. Keep a daily journal about your adventures and take plenty of photos that you can look back on in the future. It might even be a good idea to “disconnect” from your phone and social media so you can focus on your love for each other.

No matter what, you did it. You successfully planned a wedding AND a vacation and the rest of your life is ahead of you. Next step: share your wisdom with future brides + grooms. Do you have honeymoon tips you’d like to share? Leave them in the comments below!

Family is Forever: A Real Wedding with Alicia Lucia Photography

Here at Wedding Collective, family is everything. Our mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives, children and pets are our support system and livelihood! We like to think that our entire wedding community is our family, as well, which gives us this warm and fuzzy feeling in our hearts. No matter who you consider your family to be, you’ll want them to be by your side as you celebrate your marriage together.

Lauren + Andrew were thrilled to be gaining new families on their wedding day, and they absolutely made it one of the most memorable days of their lives. With family and friends traveling all the way to New Mexico from the East Coast, the couple wanted to show them the awe-inspiring views of the Southwest, so they chose La Mesita Ranch as their ceremony venue. The combination of blush florals, vintage furniture, and southwestern textures, while completely on trend, spoke to the couple’s unique personalities and love for each other.

“We chose La Mesita Ranch because we loved the beautiful property and breathtaking vistas and felt like it would really wow our mostly East Coast guests. If we were going to ask our friends and family to come all the way to New Mexico we needed to show them the #NewMexicoTrue beauty!”

– Lauren + Andrew, bride and groom

What made the day most special were the little touches that Lauren included to honor the life of her father. Like any great father-daughter duo, their love of sweet treats is what brought them together to make memories. Lauren remembered making biscochitos and eating oreos together, so she served those to her guests to keep his spirit alive. The sweetness doesn’t end there, though, because Lauren’s mother sewed her father’s wedding ring into her dress so that he could still walk her down the aisle.

As the evening carried on, the golden light washed over the couple and their guests like a wave of pixie dust, making for the most romantic views. Lauren + Andrew chose Alicia Lucia Photography to bring those raw moments to life – and let us tell you, it’s honestly hard to believe that they are real. For any and every wedding, the key ingredient to those incredible, movie-scene moments to be captured through the lens, is the love between people. Whether you are with your life partners, friends, or family, there is no greater memory than that of true happiness when you’re with the ones you love.

“We chose many of our vendors after seeing a lot of their work in Alicia’s photos and knowing that we would be in AMAZING hands with each of them – especially in that we were planning from afar. I feel most happy that we rushed to book Alicia and her team because we were floored by how well our pictures came out. It felt as if they captured every great moment and helped us to stay relaxed.”

In a World of Peace and Love: A Styled Shoot with Lillabella Photography

No matter how uncertain these times may be, there are two things that can bring us hope: peace and love. Since the beginning of time, peace and love are what united human beings to create the world we know today – and that’s something to celebrate!

For the talented Bella Black of Lillabella Photography and Darling Clementine Illustration, celebrating the two ideas came in the form of an adorable styled shoot inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Bed-Ins for Peace” during the Vietnam War. If you’re unfamiliar with the movement, it is worth all of the details. Just over 50 years ago and immediately following their marriage, Lennon and Ono invited visitors and the press into their hotel rooms to view their peaceful, one-week “in-bed” protest of the war. Surrounded by flowers and romance, this intimate act was both a strong testament to their love for each other and their love for a more peaceful world.

It’s now half of a century later, and the people of the world continue to find beautiful ways to drive out darkness, hatred, and fear. Right now, we turn to our community for inspiration as they continue to create art and meaningful collaborations that remind us of why we’re all here: to make connections and live a life full of love.

When it comes to marriage, connection and love are at the heart of the matter. For Lillabella Photography, capturing the concept of peace and love came easy because of the connection that the couple share – and after a quick glance at the gallery, you’ll see what we mean. The bright tones and vibrant colors, while still evoking a sense of warmth, are a breath of fresh air. The couple celebrating their love in bed reminds us here at Wedding Collective that staying home, and even in bed all day, can be a beautiful thing if we simply shift our perspective. Bring on all of the bedroom wedding ceremonies and honeymoons laying in bed watching Netflix! Did we just start a new trend?

We’re loving the sweet little illustrations that call back to Lennon and Ono, and are especially fond of how well the semi-modern elements are able to act as a portal between the past and the present. Just look at that flower wall! And the records used as decor?! It’s no secret the Bella has a gift for creating pieces that transcend time with a charming little twist!

We ask you to use this time to find peace and love with yourself, your partner, and the world. Your wedding may be postponed, or possibly turned into a bedroom ceremony, but no matter what, you have each other. We have the ability to fill the world with the good things, so let’s do it together!

The Best Places to Take Engagement Photos in New Mexico

Congrats, lovebirds – you’re engaged! Or maybe we’ve jumped the gun and you’re in the process of planning an upcoming proposal for the love of your life. Either way, you’re looking for the perfect spot to capture your tender moments together to celebrate your love, and we have been dying to share our favorite suggestions with you.

Every couple is different, which is why one of our main focuses is providing you with a wide variety of options for vendors in each stage of planning your wedding. The same is true for photography locations and venues! Some couples enjoy a lush garden filled with flowers, while others are more into urban-scapes filled with tall buildings and busy city life – and thank goodness that in New Mexico there are locations galore for every type of person.

Your wedding + engagement photographer is a great source for figuring out a location because they’ll have the background knowledge and experience to ensure that you’re photos come out perfect, all while guiding you on your location scouting journey. However, we know that it can be fun to scout out the locations for yourself first, because who are we kidding, our years of pinning cute pics on Pinterest weren’t for nothing! If you want to find some locations without leaving the house, we’re going to drop some pins for you.

THE URBAN

Here are some of our favorite photography spots where the city life comes alive!

THE CULTURE RICH

Experience New Mexico and beautiful history + culture that it has to offer.

THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE

The vast landscapes, clear blue skies, and stunning Sandia Mountains will set the scene for your love story.

We wish you luck on your photographic adventures around the state, and remember to keep your eyes open along the way because you never know when the New Mexican landscape will surprise you and set the stage for gorgeous images.

A lifetime of Happiness: Real Wedding with Fender Photography

“Greg and Ashlee’s wedding was such a dream. It was a perfect New Mexico fall day and everything came together beautifully. Calvary Main Campus was absolutely breathtaking on the day they said: “I DO”.

– CECILIA, FENDER PHOTOGRAPHY

Even though endless summer days are finally upon us, we can’t help but to look back on some of our favorite fall weddings. There’s just something about the crisp air and the warm colors of the leaves that leave us aching for more. It’s never too early or too late to obsess over autumnal sweetness. After all, you might be planning your upcoming fall wedding and need a little inspo, too!

For Ashlee + Greg, a fall wedding was an absolute must, and it couldn’t have been any more charming. The couple, having the warmest and gentle personalities, wanted to create an experience that celebrated both their love for each other and their spirituality. With the help of their chosen wedding vendors and the wedding venue, they made their ideal day, and so much more, possible.

Ashlee + Greg love the idea of simplicity and decided that this would be the perfect way to go about their wedding. Choosing the elements that would make up their wedding came easy, and they relied heavily on their faith to create a beautiful day for each other and their family + friends. Even though simple was the key for these two, there was certainly no lack of detail and memorable moments.

We’re a pretty simple couple, so it wasn’t surprising when we picked out details of our wedding, like colors, centerpieces, and yes even our wedding cake within 5 minutes. Needless to say, the Lord has put on our hearts as a couple and as individuals to focus our time and energy on bigger things in life. Things you can’t necessarily get back, things like moments and memories.

Ashlee, bride

We’re often used to seeing fall weddings with rich white and cream gowns, warm and luscious bouquets, and hints of orange and red everywhere. Ashlee’s pale pink wedding gown and the small, modest floral bouquets were an excellent example of the bride’s beautiful personality + unconventional take on a fall wedding. This is just a reminder: you get to pave your path, design your wedding, and do you – no matter what the current trends are!

The trees were glowing with color and the romantic lighting was the cherry on top. Working in the wedding industry you see so many wonderful wedding trends and one of my favorite things about this wedding was the trendy mismatched bridesmaid dresses. They complemented Ashlee’s stunning light pink wedding dress perfectly! All and all it was a perfect day and I am so thankful to have been a part of it. Congratulations to Greg and Ashlee, wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.”

Cecilia, fender photography

One of the most important elements that Ashlee + Greg knew they wanted for their special day was a photographer that could freeze moments in time that could be looked back on for decades to come. If you are in the wedding planning process, you know that choosing your photographer is no easy task, so the couple definitely had their hands full. At the end of the day, there was one photographer that stood out above them all, and it was a no-brainer. They chose the wildly talented Cecilia of Fender Photography – the perfect match for their warm, charming, fall wedding! You can check out the gallery below to see how the magic came to life for the adorable couple.

The Lord has truly blessed Cecilia Fender with the gift to capture those moments. It wasn’t until we received our wedding photos that I was blown away that Cecilia not only captured the highlight moments we wanted, but she captured moments that we forgot about, or had a faint memory of. And because of her, we will always have those memories to look back on. She was the absolute best decision we made for our wedding.”

Vendor Spotlight: Ashleigh Olguin Ceremonies

It’s a beautiful Tuesday here in New Mexico – despite the moth apocalypse that’s nearly taken over the entire state. However, we’re loving the weather and all of the ways that the community continues to come together to create incredible things. We’re starting to finally see glimpses of upcoming intimate weddings and we couldn’t possibly be more excited.

Wedding Collective is so happy to have welcomed some fantastic new vendors over the past couple of months, including the lovely Ashleigh Olguin of Ashleigh Olguin Ceremonies! If there is one thing that EVERY wedding needs, it’s an officiant. If you’re in the beginning phases of planning your wedding, look no further, we’re about to make you fall in love with Ashleigh’s kind soul and bright spirit.

Ashleigh did such an amazing job! She wrote such a beautiful ceremony that fit us very well, even after just meeting us once. We did a unique whiskey unity pouring and once we told her about this she did a wonderful job of writing it up. She is so easy to work with, professional, and has a real knack for writing a ceremony that perfectly fits the couple. Thank you for everything!”

Mike & Courtney Bartholomew

How could you go wrong with an officiant whose slogan is “Ashleigh loves LOVE”? We LOVE that and kind of wish we could steal it for ourselves! With over 9 years of experience in officiating weddings, Ashleigh has all everything you need to have a jaw-dropping, tear-jerking, laughter-filled ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

We always encourage local couples to work with the wedding vendors that listen to their visions and treat you like both client and friend. Wedding vendors should be the guide that walks the wedding planning path alongside you, not ahead of you or shouting from the finish line. Ashleigh Olguin is the perfect example of a wedding vendor who values connection and understanding – ensuring that she is with you every step of the way.

Whether you’re planning a religious, non-religious, or non-traditional wedding, Ashleigh has her door open to a variety of services and ceremony types. Especially now, with all of the small, elopement style weddings being planned for the upcoming months, you can count on this officiant to be there to make your greatest memories happen!

If you’re looking for a wedding officiant, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Now is the perfect time to get in contact with your officiant to get to know each other and book for your wedding. If you think Ashleigh Olguin is your match, you can get in contact with her here to learn more and get planning!
